Bath time doesn't have to be a wrestling match or sound like a tiny thunderstorm has hit your home. The first thing that worked for me was turning bath time into a game. Tell your toddler, "Let's see if the rubber duck can race the soap to the other side of the tub!" My kid once set a record for the slowest soap race ever (we clocked it at 20 minutes, but hey, no crying).
Why It Happens
Toddlers can sense transitions, and anything that disrupts their playtime can feel like an invasion. Bath time signals the end of the day, which might be why they act like you're trying to wash a cat. Or perhaps, they just hate being pruney.

1. Announce Bath Time Early
Tell your toddler, "In 10 minutes, we're going to play in the water," instead of surprising them with a sudden, "It's bath time!" This small heads-up makes a world of difference.
2. Make Choices Seem Inviting
Choices give kids some control. Try asking, "Do you want to race to the bathroom or hop like a bunny?" The hopping usually wins and keeps them giggling.
3. Engage Their Imagination
Pretend you're getting ready for a grand bath-time adventure. Say, "Let's pretend we're sailors braving a bubble storm!" You might find it hard to drag them out afterward. (Yes, this occasionally backfires with requests for rubber rain boots.)
A Real Life Example
Last Tuesday, my own toddler, after throwing herself dramatically on the hallway floor, was invited to 'sail the seven seas.' Not only did her tantrum fizzle out faster than usual, but for the first time, she asked for a towel pirate hat.
